Regard with Favour?
St. Werburghs, Summer 2011
I was contemplating Facebook's Like button in all it's reductionist quality and made this billboard piece; the clickable function strips the act of liking of affection, a switch to be turned on and off, a kind of binary approval.
It measures 18 square metres and is situated here.
'Eye' (After Man Ray)
Albany Park, Summer 2011
New two-sided outdoor piece up in Albany Park, Bristol, installed just in time for this years St. Paul's carnival; keep an eye out for it if you're in the area! It is an adaptation of an existing image from a work entitled 'Object to be destroyed' by dadaist, surrealist and modernist artist Man Ray. Known for his avant-garde photography he also explored film, painting, collage, performance and conceptual art. In his work I enjoy the use of humour and his appreciation of the absurd.
"I have been accused of being a joker. But the most successful art to me involves humour." Man Ray

Double Take - Tuesday 25th May to Saturday 29th May

Double Take was a recent show by myself and artist Leo Boyd. Bristol and Dublin came together in this photographic venture. We photographed aspects of our home cities, in my case, Bristol, and in Leo's, Dublin.
We swapped the films and then re-shot in the opposite city, doubly exposing the film.

Neither of us knew what was on the films we were shooting over; defined by the city, this event was as much about the joy of the unexpected as it was the photographic image.
It formed part of the Bristol Festival of Photography, a city-wide event with over 90 events, exhibitions, and workshops.
See the Double Take set here.
